About : Government of Punjab provincial authorities inside the federal structure of Pakistan, based in Lahore, capital of Punjab province.
In Punjab or Panjab province of Pakistan’s maximum populous region of the country and is home to the Punjabis and various other groups. Neighboring areas are Sindh to the south, Balochistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas west, KPK (Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa) NWFP (formerly Northwest Frontier Province), Azad Kashmir, Indian controlled Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh & Islamabad to the north, and the Indian Punjab and Rajasthan to the east.
The main languages are Punjabi and Urdu and is the provincial capital Lahore. The name Punjab literally translates from the Persian phrases ‘Panj’ (5) and “Aab” (water respectively) which may be translated as “5 water” (therefore the poetic call the land of five rivers), citing the Ravi, Beas, Sutlej, Jhelum and Chenab rivers. Part of the Indus River also lies in Punjab, but it is not considered one of the 5 rivers.
There are forty eight departments in the Punjab govt. Each branch is headed by Minister of province (politician) and secretary of the province (state officials typically BPS 20 and BPS 21). All ministers to report to the chief Minister, who’s the CEO. All secretaries to file to the leader Secretary of Punjab, that’s usually BPS 22 civil servant. The Secretary General in turn reports to the Chief Minister. In addition to these services, there are several autonomous bodies and attached departments who report directly to either secretaries or chief secretary.
